EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Two people were injured after a small plane crashed near Santa Barbara on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash happened at 2:15 p.m. in a field adjacent to the northbound 101 Freeway, near Santa Barbara Municipal Airport.
Authorities said the plane was on fire and it had spread to nearby vegetation. Forward progress of the fire was stopped shortly before 3 p.m.
The injured people included a 29-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, who were both taken to Cottage Hospital.
The FAA indicated the plane was a Cirrus SR22 and that they, along with the NTSB, would investigate the incident.
Authorities on the scene said there was heavy traffic in the area on Wednesday.
The incident was under investigation.
