EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is set to swear in the city’s next police chief, Jim McDonnell, on Thursday.

McDonnell is the first person to serve in senior leadership positions in three of the county’s largest policing agencies, the Long Beach Police Department, the LA County Sheriff’s Department and now the LAPD.
