LOS ANGELES — An investigation was continuing Thursday into a traffic collision in the South Los Angeles area that resulted in the deaths of a woman and her 8-year-old daughter, who were injured at a nearby bus stop by one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

Following the crash, which occurred about 1:30 p.m. last Thursday near Western Avenue and 82nd Street, the woman and child were transported by paramedics for hospital treatment, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Alma Aragon Cruz, 25, died on the way to the hospital, and Alexa Antonio Aragon died earlier this week, the LAPD reported.

According to police, a vehicle driven by a man in his 50s was heading east "from a private property" and turning left onto northbound Western Avenue when it collided with a vehicle — driven by a woman in her late 20s — that was southbound on Western.

The force of the impact caused the southbound vehicle to hit a light pole and also hit the woman and child, police said.

The male motorist was hospitalized in critical condition, and the female motorist was treated by paramedics at the scene and released, police said.

Possible criminal charges are pending against both motorists, whose names were not released, police said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to all Detective Geitheim of the South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500, or 877-LAPD-247. Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS, or use the website.
