A person was killed Friday morning after a plane crashed into a strawberry field next to Highway 101 in Oxnard, authorities said.

The crash was reported shortly after 8 a.m. Initial reports from the FAA indicated a Mooney M20T crashed after striking a building near Camarillo.

The aircraft departed from Phoenix, Arizona, and its in intended destination was Camarillo, according to the FAA.

Firefighters extinguished the fire that started after the impact and the 101 remained open despite a slowdown. Shortly after 10 a.m., the right lane on the northbound 101 was closed from Central Avenue to Del Norte Boulevard as Caltrans maintanence was on the scene.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.
