CORRECTION: This story has been updated to indicate the social media platforms strategist job posting with the Joe Biden for President Campaign has been posted for weeks. (July 3, 2024)
An interesting job post remains open after weeks of being posted online. It's to become a social media platforms strategist to write content for Vice President Kamala Harris. As the media frenzy swirls around whether Joe Biden will remain the Democratic nominee in 2024, some wonder if this is another sign that it will in fact be California’s former attorney general running against former President Donald Trump this fall?
The conversation has been growing louder in the wake of Biden’s shaky debate performance last week. On Wednesday, Trump’s MAGA Inc. pac shot off an email asking “Is Invasion Czar Kamala Harris the Best They Got?” Seems like they too are noticing a vibe shift as Harris’ rival from 2020, former Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan, penned a Newsweek essay calling on Biden to step aside and make room for Harris.
The two will have lunch Thursday at the White House and it will be very telling to see what Harris says coming out of that meal. The VP has a huge advantage in that as an official member of the current Democratic slate, she could inherit the huge campaign coffers that the Biden-Harris campaign has raised to date ($264 million this past quarter). She’s even polling better than other potential candidates like Gov. Gavin Newsom in surveys looking at how various politicians would fare against Trump in a general election.
But amid this “vibe shift” happening this week, it’s also important to know that Kamala Harris isn’t universally popular, even among her own party. A lot of Democrats find her “too abrasive.” And rumors have swirled around the senator-turned-VP about strife within her own staff. "Not a healthy environment’: Kamala Harris’ office rife with dissent" was the Politico headline in 2021. Then again, others point to her prowess as a prosecutor — saying that’s exactly what is needed to defeat a candidate like Trump. They add that her work on abortion would be an added plus given how important of an issue reproductive rights are to voters in 2024.
