LOS ANGELES — Since students returned from distance learning at Valor Academy Elementary School, they have found a new session on their daily schedules.
Each day after recess and lunch, students get a few minutes to take part in breathing exercises, listen to calming music and more to help them stay focused in class. Founding principal May Oey said the program has helped students better understand their own emotions.
About 15% of Californian youths experienced at least one major depressive episode in the last year, according to Mental Health America.
