RIDGECREST, Calif. – A 5.4 magnitude earthquake aftershock hit Ridgecrest less than 24 hours after a 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook Southern California on the 4^th of July.

At 4:07 a.m. the earthquake aftershock hit Searles Valley with 7.1 kilometer depth, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A total 2,835 people reported to the USGS feeling the impact of the aftershock. There are no reports of damage at this time.

Hundreds of smaller aftershocks continued throughout Thursday and into Friday morning. Three large aftershocks with a 4.7 magnitude and 3.5 in the Ridgecrest-area, as well as a 4.2 magnitude in Searles Valley hit at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

While there wasn’t any significant damage from the 4^th of July earthquake, many people were startled awake by shaking buildings.

Governor Gavin Newsom approved an emergency proclamation for the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that hit the Searles Valley area. The proclamation frees up state resources to assist areas affected by the earthquake and aftershocks.
