LOS ANGELES — LA’s late, great, celebrity mountain lion P-22 is getting his own library card. The Los Angeles Public Library will issue the limited-edition card at all of its locations starting Feb. 22.
It features the legendary image of the big cat prowling in front of the Hollywood sign, as captured by National Geographic photographer Steve Winter.
Griffith Park’s most famous resident was euthanized last December, a few days after he was struck by a car and wandered into a residential backyard.
In the months since his passing, he has been the subject of various public memorials and murals, but on Wednesday, he will also be the focus of a presentation at the Central Library’s Mark Taper Auditorium.
“How P-22 United Our City: Love Letters to LA’s Favorite Cat” will feature the personal stories of people who had connected with the beloved mountain lion and an open mic for people to share their memories.
