INGLEWOOD, Calif. — After Inglewood High School’s 106-0 win over Morningside on Friday, CIF Southern Section and the Inglewood Unified School District on Saturday condemned the score.

According to the LA Times, Inglewood quarterback Justyn Martin threw 13 touchdown passes, including a two-point conversion pass with a 104-0 lead.

Inglewood Morningside football coach Brian Collins told the Times, “It was a classless move.” 

Collins told the newspaper that the running clock did not start until the second quarter despite attempts to switch to a running clock earlier. Inglewood led 59-0 after the first quarter.

“The refs asked them to run the clock, and they refused,” Collins told the newspaper. 

IUSD, in a statement, said it expects every athletic contest to reflect the “highest level sportsmanship, respect and collegiality in every interaction among players, coaches, staff and administrators.”

The school district said it would conduct a full investigation and “take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that similar outcome never happens again under an IUSD athletic program.”

The district’s statement also said, “We at Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) are saddened beyond words by the events that transpired at the football game Friday between Inglewood and Morningside high schools.” 

CIF Southern Section’s statement reads:

“The CIF Southern Section expects that all athletic contests are to be conducted under the strictest code of good sportsmanship. We expect coaches, players, officials, administrators and students to adhere to the Six Pillars of Character – Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. A score of 106-0 does not represent these ideals. The CIF-SS condemns, in the strongest terms, results such as these. It is our expectation that the Inglewood administration will work towards putting in place an action plan so that an event such as this does not repeat itself.”
