BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Golden Girls fans who’d like a taste of Sophia’s famous lasagna will have their chance when a pop-up restaurant celebrating the late, great ‘80s TV show opens next month. The Golden Girls Kitchen pop-up will open July 30 in honor of Golden Girls Day. Tickets go on sale Thursday at 9 a.m. for those who’ve signed up for the waitlist and Friday at 9 a.m. for the general public.
The kitchen’s organizers announced Thursday that LA’s Royce Burke will serve as executive chef. Burke is the proprietor of Secret Lasagna and Dino’s Famous Chicken. For the Golden Girls Kitchen, his menu features two types of Sophia’s lasagna (with and without meat), a Miami-style Cuban sandwich called the lanai and a Rose Marie Combo as main dishes, with cheeky sides including cheese balls and garlic bread topped with a secret sauce from the Festival of Virgins.
Betty White fans will delight in St. Olaf Sweets like Sperheoven krispies and Genurkenflurgen cake while Rue McClanahan fans can revel in a slice of Blanche’s Georgia-style cookies — all of it served up in a recreation of the Miami home where the show’s four characters dished their zingy one-liners.
Designed for diehard fans of the show and newbies, the fast-casual restaurant is located in Beverly Hills at 369 N. Bedford. Besides dining, visitors will have plenty of photo ops to experience the lives of Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia: at the kitchen table, on the lanai or in front of a palm tree print. A pop-up store will sell new Golden Girls merch created for the kitchen experience.
Event organizer Bucket Listers created the Golden Girls Kitchen. Previous pop-ups include Saved by the Max, Good Burger and The Peach Pit.
