EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — With the Golden Globes, Critics Choice and BAFTA Film Awards already concluded, there are just a couple award shows remaining. That includes the highly anticipated and imminent Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Spectrum News caught up the show's executive producer, Jon Brockett, and famed chef Curtis Stone — who is handling the food being served — to learn more about what's to come on Saturday at the Los Angeles ceremony.

"It's our 30th anniversary, which is a great way for us to look back," said Brockett. "We do have some surprises and some reunions that we're excited to bring forward, so I'm excited about that.”

One highlight on Saturday will be Barbra Streisand, who will attend to receive the Life Achievement Award. 

"We're happy to be able to acknowledge her incredible work over her entire career," Brockett said. "She's a multi-hyphenate, between her being a recording artist and an actor and director. And she's a kind of phenomenal way to celebrate our 30th."

Another highlight: celebrity chef Curtis Stone, whose face might be instantly recognizable to food lovers everywhere. Among the elegant dishes to be served on Saturday are a salmon entrée, plant-based options and a pie station for dessert.

“It's always such a fun event. This is our biggest year. We have 900 guests," Stone told Spectrum News. "There's lots to think about when you're creating a plate, like, 'How can you replicate it 900 times?'"

"I hope we have a longstanding relationship with him going forward into the future because he and his team are so great to work with," said Brockett about Stone. "He's such a kind, generous man, and he's an incredible chef. So those things really make working with his team so easy, and also the food's just delicious. We couldn't ask for a better partner in our catering."

This year in particular, the famed chef has his work cut out for him, to put it mildly.

"We're also doing the People Magazine after-party for the first time," he said. "So that kind of doubles the workload to doing 900 for the dinner and then 900 again for the after-party."

A hot topic at the ceremony itself might be the SAG-AFTRA strike, which impacted Hollywood for a large portion of 2023.

"One of the things that we want to do as a show is to let the actors speak for themselves," said Brockett regarding the strike. "They're the ones that went through the fight. We, as a union, all did, but the actors are members, and they're the ones that really bear the brunt. So we kind of want them to speak about it and their experience, and acknowledge it in a way that speaks to them and their personal experience."
