LOS ANGELES — The Petersen Automotive Museum is best known as a showcase for premium metal, but this summer, its rooftop will steal the spotlight when it hosts the museum’s first concert series.
The debut show will take place on July 2 from 5 to 10 p.m. with sets from Israeli electronic DJ Adam Ten and the LA techno artist Dead-Tones. Tickets are $70. For an extra $20, attendees can also enjoy the Petersen’s three floors of automotive eye candy, including the current “We are Porsche” exhibit with more than 40 vehicles.
Hoping to mine the oblique electronic music connection between Kraftwerk’s “Autobahn” and Gary Numan’s “Cars,” the series is being produced by the New York-based events company, Stranger Than, which brings dance music to places that aren’t typically used as music venues. In LA, Stranger Than has repurposed the steps of City Hall, the foot of downtown LA’s 4th Street Bridge and Cabrillo Beach as electronic music venues.
The Petersen has yet to announce future Stranger Than shows but will reveal the remainder of the calendar in the coming months, a spokesperson said.
