LOS ANGELES — Harbor Freight Tools For Schools and six partners throughout Los Angeles County are helping teens experience what a career in solar installation, welding and construction, automotive repair and more would be like.
The LA County Summer Skilled Trades program provides teens with training, school credit and a paycheck. In some programs, teens also acquire entry-level certifications. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, solar installers make a median pay of about $48,000 in 2021.
The job outlook from 2021 to 2031 is expected to grow by 27%.
BLS data also estimates there will be 723,400 construction job openings each year. Here’s what the opportunity meant for one teen.
