CANOGA PARK, Calif. – It is not just a plaque and trophy what these players are holding is history

Just like he led his team on the field the Canoga Park High starting quarter back David Gamez is leading them around school campus as they celebrate the school’s first city championship since 1981.

“It feels amazing as you can see we have many fans and many supporters around here and it’s just a great community to be around. It’s a really good school and a really good football program,” said Gomez.

The trophy and plaque made their way around the campus and eventually into its future home, the Canoga Park High Museum. Gomez takes in the idea that he is now a part of the school’s history.

“Being a part of my team and being here to bring a plaque and a trophy, there’s nothing better I can ask,” said Gomez.

This type of school pride is something that School Principal Robert Garcia said is infectious.

“There’s something that’s special about football championships. It unifies a community. There’s really no other time when you have two three four thousand fans all at once out on that field unifying the school,” said Garcia.

From the excitement by the players on the field, to the cheer team rooting the players and spending their time to support them by making signs.  This school is all in.

“I want everybody in the community to come together and see what we are about,” said senior cheerleading captain Lupita Mcaiel.

The Hunter players said they are ready to take that next step as they stand in the midst of all their schools history.

In a moment of reflection Gomez addresses his team and said, “This is all of our trophy. This is for us. This is something no one can ever take away from us.”

Only thing left to do is leave it all out on the field.
