BUENA PARK, Calif. — Mariachi music will fill the air this summer at Knott's Berry Farm as guests eat birria quesadillas, sip on bebidas and jump on one of the 48 hand-carved animals in the Carrusel de California at the new Fiesta Village.
Knott's Berry Farm's much-anticipated Fiesta Village will reopen on May 26, kicking off a summer of activities and events at the Buena Park theme park.
"Fiesta Village comes alive both day and night to celebrate the Hispanic influences in Southern California," a spokesperson said in a news release.
The Fiesta Village is one of Knott's Berry Farm's central-themed lands celebrating Hispanic culture. The land was originally opened in 1969.
The area partially closed last summer and underwent a significant refurbishment, including overhauling seven of the land's attractions. However, officials cite construction delays for not reopening the former MonteZOOMa's Revenge, which was being re-themed to MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress. An opening date for the roller coaster has not been scheduled.
The land will also feature storytellers "spinning whimsical tales of the alebrijes," traditional Folklorico dances and interactive puppets.
A new restaurant, Casa California, will offer visitors burritos, birria quesadillas and tamales. Cantina Del Sur will serve cold refreshments that Knott's officials said would pair nicely with the fish tacos at the new Baja Taqueria. Guests can also munch on carne asada fries, elote and other popular Mexican dishes.
The land also pays homage to Olvera Street, which is considered the birthplace of Los Angeles and one of the city's most culturally and historically significant areas.
At Fiesta Mercado, much like Olvera Street, visitors could find and buy various unique and authentic Mexican and Hispanic merchandise.
The reopening of Fiesta Village will coincide with other events happening at Knott's this summer.
Ghost Town Alive returns with a new storyline and missions visitors can perform with the land's Old West characters.
The theme park's popular summer night series will also kick off with new local bands performing on two stages.
Across the street, Knott's Berry Farm officials will reopen Knott's Soak City. The water park will open on select dates from May 20 to Sept. 10.
