  • The "I'm going to Disneyland" or "I'm going to Disney World" TV spot began in 1987 with New York Giants quarterback and MVP Phil Simms saying the line after defeating the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI

  • Disney officials keep track of a player's performance throughout the game and chooses a player to star in the commercial

After blue and yellow confetti rained down the rafters, the Rams players exclaimed the famous phrase with their families, "We're all going to Disneyland!" in a national Disney television advertisement spot after the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The commercial also features kids from the Make-A-Wish program who wished to attend the big game.

Kupp was named MVP after finishing Sunday's big game with eight receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns.

Stafford ended the game passing for 283 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

One of the best players in the National Football League, Donald finished the game with four tackles, two sacks and an essential stop on fourth and one in the fourth quarter against Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to cement the game.

Disney officials said this is the first time three Super Bowl players appear in the commercial.

The Disney advertising campaign began in 1987, when the New York Giants defeated the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The Giants star quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms exclaimed, "I'm going to Disneyland" in a nationally aired commercial spot.

And the phrase has stuck, almost becoming synonymous with being a champion. Since then, Disney has expanded the television spot to other winning moments such as Major League Baseball's World Series, the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup, "American Idol" and Miss America. But the spot is most closely associated with the Super Bowl.

The commercial begins with the song "When You Wish Upon a Star" before a voice-over narrator says the name of the player or players, "You just won the Super Bowl, what are you going to do next?"

The player then says the famous line, "I'm going to Disneyland (or Disney World)."

Disney officials keep track of a player's performance throughout the game and choose a star player or players. The company usually pays the player or players to star in the commercial spot. The player saying where they are going depends on the location of the championship game. This year, the Super Bowl was in Inglewood — about 35 miles from Anaheim.

Over the years, the biggest names in Super Bowl history have taken part in the Disney commercial. Last year, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and teammate Rob Gronkowski said the "I'm going to Disney World" phrase after their team defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Tampa Bay.

After the Super Bowl, Disney then celebrates the player or players and their families with a magical day at the Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World.

Kupp, Stafford, Donald and their families will party with Mickey Mouse and the gang, sit atop a cavalcade and celebrate their Super Bowl win on Main Street, U.S.A., at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Disney will live stream the celebration on their social media sites.
