Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) has taken issue with President Donald Trump’s recent comments about the wildfires burning across California.

On Nov. 10, the president took to Twitter to blame "gross mismanagement" for the devastating fires that have claimed dozens of lives and destroyed thousands of homes across the state this month.

In an interview, airing Wednesday on the Spectrum News 1 program Inside the Issues, Schiff took aim at the president.

"The president is a deeply vindictive person. We see that now," Schiff told host Alex Cohen. "California is literally burning and the president's first impulse is to attack California and suggest that the fires are your problem, and your mistake and it's all forest management."

The congressman added, “The majority of forests are being managed by the federal government, the very government that he runs.”

Trump took to Twitter Wednesday to say he was briefed by Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Brock Long and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, who are in California. The president went on to praise first responders for doing an "incredible job'' battling the fires.

"Was just briefed by @FEMA_Brock and @SecretaryZinke, who are in California," he tweeted. "Thank you to the great Firefighters, First Responders and @FEMA for the incredible job they are doing w/ the California Wildfires. Our Nation appreciates your heroism, courage & genius. God Bless you all!"

Of the fires currently burning in the state, the Camp Fire in Northern California is now the deadliest in state history. The blaze has claimed 48 lives and charred 135,000 acres as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Cal Fire

Meanwhile, the Woolsey fire burning along the Ventura County and Los Angeles County border in Southern California has left three people dead and burned 97,620 acres.
