JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – A wildfire erupted in Jurapa Valley on Wednesday morning and fueled by strong winds, spread to 628 acres. As of Friday morning, the fire was 90 percent contained.

Dubbed the Hill fire, the blaze was first reported at 9:58 a.m. and began at Granite Hill Drive and Pyrite Street in Jurupa Valley.

At its height on Wednesday afternoon, there were approximately 500 firefighters assigned to battle the blaze.

Fixed wing aircraft were also deployed to fight the blaze, but have since been released.

Fire officials indicated that forward progress of the blaze had been halted.

The fire resulted in the temporary closure of Highway 60, which was later reopened in both directions. 

One civilian suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital.

One mobile home and one residential structure have been damaged in the blaze.
 
Mandatory evacuations had been issued earlier but as of Wednesday evening, all had been lifted.

A care and reception center has been established at Patriot High School, located at 4355 Camino Real, Jurupa Valley, 92509.

A second care and reception center has been opened at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, located at 7447 Scholar Way, Corona, CA 92880.

 

 

 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
