According to de León's office, the event celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019, and as a result of the coronavirus pandemic the celebration was placed on hold for about three years.

Fiesta Broadway has established itself as one of the largest and most anticipated Cinco de Mayo festivals in the United States, drawing thousands of attendees each year, officials said.

It is a day where the streets of downtown Los Angeles burst into "color and sound, celebrating the diverse heritage of the Latino community and the broader tapestry of cultures that make Los Angeles an exceptional place to call home," de León's office noted.

The event will recognize the 31st anniversary of the event, and will be scheduled for Sunday, April 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Musicians such as Pablo Montero and Graciela Beltran, among others, are expected to perform. Jose Alejandro Lora Serna, better known by his stage name Alex Lora, the frontman for Mexican rock band El Tri, will serve as grand marshal.

City officials said the event will be financed by sponsors and other groups, and the councilman is expected to cover the cost of permits for the event. In total, the councilman is proposing about $50,000 to support the event, according to his office, which is similar in cost for the city's winter parade and other celebrations.

Luis Medina, CEO of Fiesta Broadway, said they are excited to return and come back with "beautiful plans," including a kids zone so families with children can enjoy the festivities as well.

Medina also noted a first for the event — luchadores facing off in exhibition matches.

He encouraged residents across the city, and visitors, to come and enjoy the celebration.
