EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday that the state is launching an expansion of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

The governor was joined by his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, state Sen. Shannon Grove, state librarian Greg Lucas and The Dollywood Foundation in making his announcement.

The expansion was made possible by SB 1183, which was signed into law by Newsom last year and allows all California children under age 5 to be eligible to enroll in the program and receive a free book every month by mail. The program is currently active in areas across 30 counties, and the expansion is expected to fully cover the state by 2028, according to a release from the governor’s press office.
