Lisa Correa is in charge of making sure a dreidel will go in every single care package that will be delivered to Jewish senior citizens across the South Bay.

“I like to pick out a prayer for the resident, we agree on it and we read it together, which is nice,” Correa said.

A prayer book and blanket are also included in the packages.

Through Klein Chaplain Services, Correa's been the lead volunteer organizer for six years because she doesn’t want Jewish senior citizens to feel forgotten.

“Some people we visit don’t have one visitor from one year to the next, we’re the only contact they have from the outside world,” Rabbi Gila Katz said.

Katz has been running the program for almost 20 years, and last year was their biggest year yet - Giving away more than 400 gifts.

At Lomita Care Center, Correa says a prayer with a group and teaches them about Hanukkah.

Then she visits with Anita. After they say a prayer, Correa reveals her gift.

"It’s wonderful, thank you so very much," Anita said.

For Correa, this experience is about more than giving gifts, it’s about the activity around it. She’s not just a stranger at a bedside, she's there to spend time with those who may not have anyone around the holidays.

"Lisa is extrodinary," Katz said. "Making them feel good is a tremendous honor."

She unplugs the menorah from Anita’s room and makes her way out. She picks up more gift bags to be delivered, where hopefully the next recipient will remember how much she cares long past this year’s Hanukkah.
