CULVER CITY, Calif. — Alan Kenney would do just about anything for his brother with a developmental disability.

But finding a doctor who could take the time to understand his brother's disability and find answers for his care needs became a frustrating challenge, Kenney said.

A 2021 study published in Health Affairs found that 56% of physicians strongly agreed that they welcomed patients with disabilities.

Research by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that people with disabilities were more likely to report poorer overall health and having less access to adequate health care than someone without a disability.

With a $2 million donation from Mackenzie Scott and other donors, Achievable Health, a nonprofit health provider, will expand specialized primary care services this December for its 2,400 patients with developmental disabilities in the Culver City area.

The new location, the Achievable Health Lovelace Center, will feature sensory quiet rooms, 13 patient treatment rooms, and more.
