LOS ANGELES — The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the number of U.S. nurse practitioners has grown significantly over the years, more than doubling between 2010 and 2017.

But there’s still a growing disparity in the industry.

Health experts say nurse practitioners are well-positioned to help address the racial and socioeconomic health inequities across Los Angeles, but they must first reflect the communities they serve.

Ginille Brown is an aesthetic nurse practitioner who says diversity is essential across every health care sector, including hers.

To increase diversity, she has launched a campaign and mentorship program to show future nurses that a career in this industry is also an option.
