Our chances for rain are decreasing as we say hello to spring. But, don't give up yet.
The outlook for the next three months offers some hope, albeit just a glimmer.
SoCal cities had above average rainfall heading into 2022 thanks to a series of storms from Christmas into the New Year.
Then, a dry spell came, not only in January but also in February and now March.
This three-month period of 2022 will go down in history as one of the driest periods on record.
More storms came through in March than in January and February, but the rain was spotty, causing many cities to fall below seasonal rainfall averages.
Now comes spring. And for the first month of the season, the Climate Prediction Center's outlook show's a 30% to 40% chance SoCal will continue to see below average rainfall.
As for temperatures, there's a 33% to 50% chance we'll feel above average temperatures. This is good news for fans of sunny and warmer weather, especially with Spring Break fast approaching.
The CPC's three-month outlook for temperatures shows a similar pattern for SoCal and much of the United States.
However, the outlook for rain shows equal chances of either above average or below average rainfall for SoCal.
Mother Nature sometimes surprises us with more showers in spring than in winter. Let's hope that's the case this year.
One positive note - if you look at the image below, you'll see some wildflower blooms, perfect timing for a springtime hike.
Wildflower blooms will continue as more warmth and abundant sunshine is in the forecast for the first full week of spring. Even the coast will experience summerlike weather.
