LOS ANGELES (CNS) — The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped to its lowest amount since Sept. 20 Wednesday, decreasing 3 cents to $5.463.

The average price has dropped 39 times in 42 days since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, decreasing $1.031, including nine-tenths of a cent Tuesday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. The average price is 6.5 cents less than one week ago and 66.4 cents lower than one month ago, but 78.6 cents more than one year ago.

The Orange County average price dropped to its lowest amount since Sept. 16, decreasing 3 cents to $5.357. It has dropped 36 times in 42 days since rising to a record $6.357 on Oct. 5, decreasing $1.102, including 1.1 cents Tuesday.

The Orange County average price is 6.3 cents less than one week ago and 64.9 cents lower than one month ago, but 70.7 cents more than one year ago.

The national average price dropped for the seventh consecutive day following a run of six increases in seven days, totaling 4 cents and decreasing 1.6 cents to $3.743. It is 6.2 cents less than one week ago and 14.5 cents lower than one month ago, but 33.2 cents more than one year ago.

The national average price has dropped 6.2 cents over the past seven days, including 1.4 cents Tuesday. It is $1.273 lower than the record $5.016 set June 14.
