ANAHEIM, Calif. — The heavy rains and winter storm that pounded much of Southern California last month have pushed back the reopening date of Disneyland's much-anticipated renovation of Toontown.
Disneyland officials said the new opening date for Mickey and Minnie's home, initially slated for March 8, is now March 19.
"Due to heavy winter storms that impacted our construction momentum, we are adjusting the reopening date of Mickey's Toontown to March 19," Disneyland officials said in a statement. "We can't wait for our guests to visit and experience the reimagined."
Last month, a so-called Bomb Cyclone off the Pacific Ocean and other winter storms brought torrential rainfall, hurricane-level winds and gloomy weather across California.
In Southern California, officials issued flash flood warnings, mudslides and closed streets. On some days, Disneyland closed early, and other theme parks, such as Knott's Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain, closed on some days due to inclement weather.
Disney closed Mickey's Toontown at Disneyland last March as part of an overhaul and reimagining of the Toontown area.
The themed land based on the 1988 movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" initially opened in 1993. The area is where visitors can find Mickey and Minnie's home, Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin and other attractions most suitable for children.
The opening of the newly renovated Toontown coincides with Disneyland's celebration of the Walt Disney Company's 100th anniversary.
Anchoring Toontown is a new ride, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway ride, which opened last month. When the rest of Toontown reopens in March, visitors will experience new features like the CenTOONial Park, a water fountain where children can play, a reimagined Goofy's House and Donald's Boat, and more.
