The Port of Los Angeles announced Wednesday that Princess Cruises' Grand Princess will be the first cruise ship to depart the Port of Los Angeles since COVID-19 forced it to suspend operations last spring. The seven-day cruise to the Mexican Riviera is scheduled to depart Sept. 25.

"The top priority is making sure passengers, crew and shoreside workers are safe and healthy," Port of LA Executive Director Gene Seroka said Wednesday, adding that Princess is targeting a 95% vaccination rate for crews and passengers.

Other Princess cruises leaving from Los Angeles this fall include five- and seven-day getaway cruises of the California coast and Mexico and 15-day cruises to the Islands of Hawaii, the company announced in June.

According to the Princess website, "Cruises sailing through 2021 are available for guests who have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the cruise and have proof of vaccination."
