LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers are the champions of the world, and both teams did it on the road, isolated in a bubble.
On the streets of Los Angeles, social distancing was tossed aside like a bat flip after a home run.
While many fans watched from home, others like Jordan Ramay wanted to share the moment in the safest way possible — at an outdoor bar in Echo Park.
“I was at game seven with Houston, so this is going to mean a lot to me,” said Ramay.
Los Angeles sports fans like Ramay have been thirsting for the closest camaraderie they could get to celebrate a World Series they knew this team so rightfully deserved. However, the Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Dr. Barbara Ferrer, said when it comes to slowing the spread of COVID-19, even outdoor dining and gatherings can be as reckless as a brushback pitch to a batter's head.
“Watching games with hundreds of other people, jumping up and down, celebrating with no masks on. Hugging perfect strangers, again with a lot of shouting and cheering, so easy to spread this virus,” explained Dr. Ferrer.
Fans like Ramay are doing the best they can to avoid the spread of COVID-19, but they will not miss the chance to spread the joy that Los Angeles sports fans are so eager to share.
Against all odds, in a pandemic, L.A. teams got the job done, and now it is time for the fans to play their part.
