BURBANK, Calif. — In this final segment of our series, "Burbank: Under the Gun," we look to local leaders to see how they are addressing concerns about the high number of gun retailers in the city, and what, if any, legislative options are available to them.
Rep. Adam Schiff, a resident of Burbank, said it came as "quite a shock to learn that the concentration was that intense here in [his] hometown.”
At a city council meeting on July 19, Burbank leaders, including council member Nick Schultz, will consider a moratorium that would prevent any new gun sellers from starting a business in the city. This would essentially buy them some time to further examine the impact these retailers have on the local community.
Schultz has a young daughter and a baby on the way. Burbank will be their hometown, so while the council member is listening to all sides of this ongoing debate, his most important constituents are his kids.
“I do not want them to grow up in a world where active shooter training and mass shootings are common," he said. "They don't deserve that. We all collectively deserve better.”
