CARSON, Calif. (CNS) — Firefighters Friday were working to completely extinguish a stubborn fire at a pallet yard and a distribution facility in Carson.

The greater-alarm fire was reported at 2:25 p.m. Thursday in the 16000 block of South Avalon Boulevard near Hemingway Park, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Three firefighters were injured on Thursday, with two treated at the scene and the third taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to the fire department.

On Friday morning, a fourth firefighter suffered a minor injury, the fire department reported.

The smoky fire began in a wooden pallet yard and quickly spread to a large commercial building at a distribution facility that included cartons of hand sanitizer containing alcohol, the fire department reported.

According to KCAL9, an employee at the facility said a barrel of hand sanitizer may have exploded and ignited the fire. The official cause of the fire was under investigation, the fire department reported Friday.

The fire was brought under control late Thursday night, but fire crews remained on scene overnight and into Friday dousing hot spots, an effort that was expected to continue throughout the day, the fire department reported. Some active flames could be seen after daybreak.

Some electrical service was interrupted in the area, but most of the power had been restored by Friday morning, the fire department reported.
