LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Former Louisville Cardinal Hailey Van Lith is now a tiger. Van Lith is joining the defending national champion, LSU Tigers.

Van Lith announced her decision on Twitter, posting a picture of herself wearing an LSU uniform with the caption “eleven,” which we assume is a reference to her new number.

The star guard finished 12th all-time in scoring at UofL. She graduates from Louisville in May with a finance degree and two years of remaining eligibility. She transfers to LSU as a graduate transfer.

“It’s been an honor over the last three years to have had the opportunity to pour my passion and heart into Louisville,” Van Lith wrote on Instagram. “This city has impacted my life in so many ways and helped shape me into the person I am today. The Louisville community has given to me selflessly. I will never forget your unwavering support.”

Van Lith’s last game with the Cardinals was in the Elite Eight when they lost to Iowa 97-83.

Now that she’s in Baton Rouge, Van Lith will play for four-time national champion coach Kim Mulkey. Mulkey, who won three titles at Baylor where she coached for two decades, has found success relying on transfer players — most notably Angel Reese from Maryland. Reese showed her excitement about Van Lith joining the team in her own Twitter post.

 

Coach Mulkey doesn’t just have talented transfer players, she is bringing in the top-ranked freshman class. ESPN says the addition of Van Lith, returning players and the recruits coming in, LSU could become the first NCAA repeat champions since Connecticut from 2013 to 2016.
