LOS ANGELES – Feeding baseball players throughout the 162-game season as well as spring training can be a challenge.

Tyrone Hall has to find a mixture of variety, what the players they like, and what keeps them in top shape nutritionally. Now add extra postseason games on top of that and it is all about helping the players maximize their potential on the field.

"The body goes through wear and tear during that time so you're always making sure that they're recovering as much as possible and it's a combination of efforts between us, the medical staff, and the strength and conditioning staff," said Hall.

The staff is always checking on the players statuses, whether it is injuries, amount of sleep, fatigue, and levels of hydration. Everyone is all hands-on-deck working toward one common goal.

"The postseason is making sure everyone is staying there," said Hall.

Baseball is known for its superstitions so it's probably no surprise that there is some of that when it comes to nutrition. By the time the players get to the postseason, there is no experimenting.

“New nutrition is not the goal once you get to the postseason. You're doing what's reliable and what works and then meeting and adding on as necessary," said Hall.

But the food process can get more challenging when players are on the road and Hall doesn't always travel with the team. Sometimes there is in-house catering, but if not, then Hall orders food and has to be prepared for things outside of his control.

"When in major cities you have to consider traffic, you have to consider prices. These are all things that change what your budget looks like, changes what your timing looks like," said Hall.

But all in all, they have been here before and are ready for the challenges as they come. Hall makes sure he is stocked with the players favorite foods whether they are at home or on the road.

"Dried mangoes. For some reason dried mangoes go really fast around here so we always make sure we have some dried mangoes packed in somebody's luggage,” said Hall.

Little peanut butter cups, like chocolate peanut butter cups, is a happy snack for the team. Even baseball players have to indulge sometimes. As long as they are happy, then hopefully they play happy all the way to a World Series win.
