CHAVEZ RAVINE, Calif. – It's become routine around Dodger Stadium in October with the grounds crew tracing the National League Division Series stencil that will get painted ahead of Game 1 against the Washington Nationals on Thursday.

"We're pretty fortunate to get to do this every year or the last seven years in a row, not everybody gets the opportunity like this like we have lately," said Director of Turn and Grounds at Dodger Stadium, Jordan Lorenz.

Being part of a Major League Baseball grounds crew is a job that requires meticulous precision on any given day...but the ante is upped in the postseason.

"Everything matters so much, every pitch matters so much for the playoff games," Lorenz said. "We're just trying to make sure everything is a little bit, dialed in a bit more than it normally is."

The grounds team had some additional time this year to prep the field as the Dodgers played their final game of the season on the road.

Lorenz and crew have been able to take their time to get the mound and infield ready, as well as to cut the grass perfectly.

These are tasks they'll repeat many times until the first pitch of Game 1.

Outside of this, it's all about the logos that will be painted in front of the Dodgers' and the visiting team's dugouts.

"The logos are big block letters this year, and only three colors so they're a little simpler than they've been in the past," said Lorenz.

And if the Dodgers progress past the Division Series, the only big difference for the grounds crew is that the logos will change for the NLCS and the World Series....and their window to get them painted will be much smaller than it was for this series.

"If we play Game 5 of the DS here, we turn right around, and play the first game of the CS a day or two later so there's not much we can do to change anything," Lorenz said.

As they continue executing their tasks before Game 1's opener of the NLDS, working past the 162 game mark seven years in a row doesn't get old for this grounds crew, and it's not something they take for granted.

"Most of us have worked here long enough to know what it's like to not be in the playoffs. It's the slog end of the season and it's not a lot of fun watching everyone else, so it's nice to be part of it again," Lorenz said.
