TORRANCE, Calif. – A person has died after a small plane crashed Thursday on the roof of a strip mall in Torrance, according to fire officials.
The single-engine plane crashed at the 25300 block of Crenshaw Boulevard just after noon. Police were called to the scene east of the Torrance Municipal Airport when the plane crash-landed into the roof of a strip mall.
One person was killed and a second person has critical injuries.
It is unknown if the pilot or passenger died. No one in the building was hurt and there were no other injuries.
There was no fire, however there was a fuel leak and firefighters put down materials to soak up the fuel.
The plane landed between Joey's Smokin' BBQ and California Pizza Kitchen.
The cause of the plane crash has not been determined at this time.
Northbound Crenshaw Boulevard is shut down from the Pacific Coast Highway to Airport Drive. Southbound Crenshaw Boulevard is closed from Skypark Drive to Airport Drive.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
