LOS ANGELES – Actress Felicity Huffman was sentenced to 14 days in federal prison on Friday for her role in the nationwide college admissions bribery scandal.
Huffman, best known as a star on Desperate Housewives, was sentenced in Boston's federal court on Friday, having pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy and fraud for paying a $15,000 bribe to a proctor, who corrected her daughter's answers on a college-entrance exam.
Huffman pleaded guilty back in May.
Prosecutors had recommended a month in prison and a $20,000 fine. Huffman's lawyers argued for a year of probation, 250 hours of community service, and a $20,000 fine.
"I am deeply ashamed of what I have done," said Huffman before the sentencing. "I have inflicted more damage than I could ever imagine."
The Oscar-nominated actress is the first of 34 parents charged in the scandal to be sentenced.
