PERRIS, Calif. — Tucked away on the side of the Tomas Rivera Middle School is the Family Engagement Community Resource and Learning Center, where district families, by appointment, can use washers, dryers and detergent for free.
The site also features a community store where families can find at least seven pallets of new Forever 21 clothes donated by Bordando Nuestras Raíces. The site will eventually include free food, pantry items, health and dental services, and adult education classes.
The newly available center hopes to help Val Verde Unified School District families in need where the median household income is about $80,000. One parent shared that she has 10 people in her household. Without a washer, dryer at home or a steady income, it could be challenging to afford clean clothes, she said.
The Family Engagement Community Resource and Learning Center is still in need of donations and is located at 21705 Martin St. in Perris.
