On Feb. 19, 1942, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which set in motion the forced incarceration of more that 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry during World War II. 

To observe the 2023 Los Angeles Day of Remembrance, the Japanese American National Museum hosted an event called “Uniting Our Voices: Making Democracy Work for All.”

Born in the Manzanar internment camp, Patricia Sakamoto honors her mother’s memory by telling her story and representing the survivors of Manzanar.
