LOS ANGELES — The Verdugo Mountain area comes with scenic views from Tujunga resident homes. Some residents don’t want to see the views and open spaces changed by development.
The Canyon Hills proposal for development was approved by the City of Los Angeles back in 2005 and is now seeking to begin developing in the area. The site would create more than 200 luxury homes in one of the Los Angeles Fire Department’s “very high fire hazard severity zones.”
Recently, the group No Canyon Hills gathered over 165,000 signatures asking the city to redo the original environmental impact report that was conducted back in 2003.
In a statement, LA City Council member Monica Rodriguez, who represents District 7, said in part: “There are unfortunately no tools at the City’s disposal to lawfully reverse the decision, or withdraw the rights guaranteed to them under that 2005 agreement approved by a predecessor.”
