LOS ANGELES — There were 147 confirmed cases of monkeypox in Los Angeles County as of Friday.

The county has 42 sites distributing doses of the Jynneos vaccine for eligible individuals, but some walk-ins were being turned away due to limited quantities.

As more vaccines become available, eligibility will continue to expand. Health officials urge caution for at-risk groups.

In LA County, the monkeypox vaccine is currently available for gay men, bisexual men, men having sex with men and transgender persons with qualifying factors outlined on public health websites.

Yesterday, the World Health Organization declared the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency of international concern.
