LOS ANGELES — In the Baldwin Hills area, it’s common for residents and people, such as Regina Martin with Black Women for Wellness, to drive by and see the oil derricks at the Inglewood Oil Field.

Parts of the oilfield are located in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County and Culver City.

LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell said a recent ordinance amendment will ban new oil wells and phase out oil and gas operations within the area.

Culver City implemented a settlement last year with Sentinel Peak Resources, the operator of the site, that bans new oil wells and will phaseout oil production within the city by 2030.
