LOS ANGELES — Based on a Christopher Bond play from 1970, “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” is one of Stephen Sondheim’s most performed works.

“Sweeney Todd” received eight Tony Awards in 1979—including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score.

Co-artistic directors Julia Rodriguez-Elliott and Geoff Elliott (stepping into the Todd role for his first time) are focussing on the characters’ psychologies and their socio-economic underpinnings.
