LOS ANGELES (CNS) — Warner Bros.' DC Comics film "The Suicide Squad" opened with $26.5 million this weekend to lead all films at the North American box office, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The total was below expectations for the film, a sequel to the 2016 hit "Suicide Squad." The new film is also available for home viewing on the HBO Max streaming service.

Disney's "Jungle Cruise" grossed $15.69 million for second place, one week after opening in first place with over $34 million, Comscore reported.

M. Night Shyamalan's thriller "Old" was in third place with $4.1 million, followed by "Black Widow" with $4 million and "Stillwater" with $2.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were "The Green Knight" ($2.59 million), "Space Jam: A New Legacy" ($2.4 million), "Snake Eyes" ($1.6 million), "Escape Room: Tournament of Champions" ($1.25 million) and "F9" ($1.23 million).
