HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — "Stand by me," in Farsi, with Bon Jovi?

That’s just one of many creative collaborations where Andy Madadian has been able to share his culture with an American audience. Known for peace and positivity, he is the first Iranian Armenian American to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"I came to America when there was a revolution in Iran. I came here to become an American rock star. And fate brought millions of Iranians and Armenians to this beautiful land called America and I had the opportunity to record in Armenian and Iranian. And thank God they were hits and I became an Iranian Armenian singer,” he said.

Madadian’s high energy music attracted a collaboration with Latoya Jackson, where the artist famously sang in Farsi in their hit song, "Tehran." But,Tehran itself hasn’t exactly been welcoming of Madadian.

The religious regime found his content to be too liberal, prohibiting its sales in Iran.

"My music has been banned in Iran, so the source of income and source of royalties was never there. We basically did music for the love of it. And we never had financial support coming from Iran, which is the main source of our fan base," Madadian said.

"But hey, I’m not complaining, I’ve always had music. I’ve had a great family, a great life in America, so life has been fantastic, it’s been difficult, but I’m here, and I believe that this is only the beginning."

The beginning of a new era indeed. Madadian is releasing new English music, particularly a new song called "The Good Fight.”

His hope is to continue to share a spirit of peace and unity through his artistry.

"I believe all these talks of war are nonsense. The people of Iran and the people of America, they love each other. Governments should ease down and hopefully nothing drastic will happen," Madadian said. "My biggest wish is for Iran and America to be friends so we can all come and go and live in both countries"

But until that day comes, Madadian and the many Persians living in L.A. continue to worry for their loved ones still in Iran.

"I do have many many great friends, people I grew up with. They’re in Iran. And we always worry about them. And we always pray that one of these days the situation will be peaceful for people to live, and hopefully, Iran and America will live in peace," he said. "Because both cultures appreciate each other, and we should put aside our differences and go on with life."

Using the power of music to keep his communities both joyful and connected, his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is just one step forward in a peaceful direction.
