SANTA ANA (CNS) — The number of people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection in Orange County has increased by one to 316, with 44 of those patients being treated in intensive care, down from 50 on Friday, according to the latest state figures.

The Saturday numbers came one day after local health officials reported another 3,527 infections, figures that cover July 19-21. The Orange County Health Care Agency provides regular COVID updates on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The OCHCA also reported eight additional deaths linked to the virus, bringing the county's cumulative totals to 628,627 cases and 7,189 fatalities since the pandemic began.

The county's testing positivity rate was 19.3%, and was 21.3% in the health equity quartile, which measures the communities hardest hit by the pandemic.

The county's daily case rate per 100,000 people is 40.2 on a seven-day average with a seven-day lag, and 37.2 for the adjusted rate, also with a seven-day average and seven-day lag.
