Staff plan to vaccinate 1,000 health care workers and senior citizens. Councilman Price said the majority of residents in this underserved community are minorities, many with disabilities and no transportation, who would not be able to make the trip to one of the larger vaccination sites in L.A.
"So often our community has been left out. In other words, the vaccine is available at a major center — at the Forum, at Dodger Stadium, or Cal State L.A., but not in the neighborhood," Councilman Price explained.
He said it has been challenging enough to secure both the first and second dose of the vaccines for his constituents. Now that there’s another mega-site open at Cal State Los Angeles with promises to vaccinate up to 6,000 people a day, Price is insisting that enough resources continue to be allocated directly to the communities, like his, that need them most.
"We don’t think that our community, South L.A. should suffer because of that. We know there are already some built in disparities that we have to address," he said.
