LOS ANGELES (CNS) — A 66-foot tall mural will be unveiled Monday at the Los Angeles Mission at Skid Row, painted by well-known local street artist Kenny Scharf.
Scharf has been working on the project for four days, drawing small crowds of interested onlookers attracted by its colorful images and social media buzz, according to mission staff.
The 62-year-old Los Angeles native is known for his participation in New York City's vibrant East Village art scene in the 1980s, alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. His work spans painting, sculpture, fashion, video, performance art and street art.
Scharf was also guest designer of the 2021 Dior Men's Collection.
He is donating his time for the Skid Row project.
