SANTA ANA, Calif. – After a little over a month since debuting at John Wayne Airport, Breeze Airways has launched new routes never introduced in the Orange County market.
For the first time, customers in Orange County – and Greater Los Angeles - can fly nonstop from John Wayne Airport to Columbus, Ohio, or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The Utah-based airliner also inaugurated a daily one-stop and no-plane change service from Santa Ana to Providence, Rhode Island.
"Of these three markets, Columbus has never had nonstop service from John Wayne, and both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati haven't had service in 10 or more years," said Ryne Williams, a communications specialist at Breeze. "Pittsburgh specifically hasn't seen this route in 20 years."
The launch of the new routes comes as Breeze continues to stand out with its unique service brand and targeted secondary city destinations a month after debuting at John Wayne Airport.
With its fleet of A220s, Breeze Airway officials said they want to provide new, nice, nonstop, and affordable flights in underserved markets and "succeed by going where others don't."
Former JetBlue and WestJet founder David Neeleman founded the Salt Lake City-based budget carrier in 2021.
Since launching a couple of years ago, the budget carrier has grown to service over 80 routes in 30 destinations. The airline has more expansion plans to come.
"Travel & Leisure," according to its readers, named Breeze as one of the 10 Best Domestic Airlines in the U.S.
At John Wayne, Breeze will now serve Columbus, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Providence, Orlando and Provo.
Williams, the Breeze official, said John Wayne customers had been pleased with the budget carrier's entrance into the Orange County market.
"We saw some very full flights this week, and we have seen overall demand growing in Orange County as we continue to expand our footprint at John Wayne," said Williams. "As demand grows, we continue to look for more opportunities at JWA."
