LOS ANGELES -- A recent proposal to expand the use of driverless trucks at the Port of Los Angeles is sparking protests by dockworkers who say they will be out of a job.

Los Angeles is home to the number one container port in the world. The port stretches over 43 miles of waterfront, has an operating budget of $1.3 billion dollars and employs more than 500,000 people.

Eric Garcetti, the mayor of Los Angeles, sat down with Alex Cohen to explain why he made the decision to help mediate the dispute.

“My best role to play is to make sure that we preserve jobs but that we don’t look at the future with fear,” Garcetti said.
