The Academy Awards take place at 5 p.m. Sunday.

For more on the big show, watch our Spectrum News 1 special, "A Year of Firsts for Oscar."

One of those firsts will be the ceremony being televised from Union Station, and Spectrum News 1 will give you a sneak peek inside the historic venue at 9 p.m. Friday before the big night.

Viola Davis co-hosted a legendary Zoom chat for the Women in Film 14th annual Oscar Nominees Toast, featuring 52 nominees. This year it was virtual, and you can see a recap of the discussion on YouTube.

Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous nomination for his performance in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom." He is one of only six actors in history to receive the best actor nomination posthumously. A new Netflix special, "Portrait of an Artist," explores his extraordinary commitment to the craft of acting.

For the last 28 years, the star-studded Elton John's AIDS Foundation Academy Award Party has only been for high-profile celebrities to attend. Well, now for another first, this year it is virtual, and you can attend. The pre-party on Sunday will include special performances by Dua Lipa, and Elton himself. Tickets are only $19.99 and go to a great cause.

The Andaz West Hollywood is hosting two Oscar watch parties at its hotel on the Sunset Strip. One will be a drive-in and the other a socially distanced poolside watch party outside in the fresh air upstairs on the sundeck, which sounds very cool.

If you are safely doing an Oscar viewing party at home, IndieWire has a list of essential items, including the Gourmet Alcohol-Infused Popcorn Trio.

That is right! Popcorn infused in either tequila, champagne or whiskey, or a Movie Night Popcorn Seasoning Set of taco, BBQ, ranch or mojito lime.

Yum!

Insert your favorite popcorn meme here, and enjoy the big night!

Watch "The SoCal Scene" at 9 p.m. every Thursday on Spectrum News 1 and on the Spectrum News app.
