Dancing Dreams supports young dancers who have a physical or medical challenge that want to experience the bright lights of the stage.

Joann Ferrara, the founder of the dance company, and Leah Zelaya, one of the dancers, joined “News All Day” to discuss the company’s accomplishment.

Ferrara is a pediatric physical therapist and one of her 4-year-old patients said “I wish I could be a dancer but nobody wants me.” It was here when Ferrara decided to start a dance program.

The company’s locations can be found in Queens, Manhattan and Long Island.

Zelaya has been part of “Dancing Dreams" for 10 years and says that not only is it life changing, it’s a “place of acceptance and not where they turn us away.”

The program has a strong leadership program for teenage volunteers, so each dance is paired with a dancer in classes and for shows.

Participants of the dance company are aged three to 21-years-old.
